Day 1 Displays - An Introduction (7) - Flipbook - Page 7
Spanning an impressive 40 metres in length and 3 metres in height, the mural
extended along an entire public walkway within a shopping centre. The
artwork brought together ideas and creativity from local children to create a
vibrant piece celebrating the wider community.
With one continuous design running across the entire installation, there was
no margin for error. Every panel had to be carefully positioned, ensuring
individual elements of the artwork matched perfectly from one panel to the
next.
Even the smallest discrepancy at the beginning of the installation could have become
significantly magnified further along the wall. Precision at every stage was therefore
essential. The result was a remarkably seamless flow.
Despite being constructed from 30 separate printed sections and navigating colums
within the structure, the finished installation reads as one uninterrupted piece of
artwork, with the joins disappearing into the overall design.
The project became much more than a technically accomplished graphics installation.
Having been created collaboratively with local primary schools, the finished mural
gave children and families across Banbury the opportunity to see their ideas
transformed into a prominent piece of public artwork within their own town.
It combined design, craftsmanship and community in a single installation.
